Follow these steps to complete the discovery and deployment process:

  1. Open a browser and enter the URL https://manager.systemsmanagementondemand.com:

  2. Enter your company, username, and password.
    Note:
If you are unsure about this information, contact Support.
  3. Click the Admin tab.
  4. Click the Discovery subtab:

Note: If these tabs are not available, you do not have the rights under Role Based Security to take these actions. See your company administrator.
  5. Point to the Discovery menu and choose Reset Discovery to display the Reset Discovery page:
  6. Select the Invoke Discovery option and click Save. Systems Manager automatically defines the available namespaces to which you can deploy and displays them on the Configure Namespaces page:
  7. Click the browser refresh button to view the available namespaces :

These namespaces are available for you to scan for other systems in your network. A namespace is a logical grouping of systems in your network. Systems Manager enables you to define Microsoft domains, subnet ranges, and WINS servers as namespaces.
  8. Click the Set Credentials link next to the namespace you want to scan to display the Edit Namespace page:
  9. Enter administrator credentials for the namespace and click Save.
Systems Manager encrypts these credentials for use during discovery and deployment and returns you to the Configure Namespaces page.
  10. Click the action button  next to the desired namespace:

Systems Manager begins the namespace scan and updates the page only when you refresh the browser.
This action begins the process of finding available machines on which the MicroAgent can be installed.
  11. Click the browser refresh button periodically (about every 30 seconds) until you see updated results.
This design prevents an auto-refresh from happening at the wrong time.
You will see the progress indicated by “Discovering (Cancel)” and “X/Y”.
Note: Do not proceed until you see these progress messages.
  12. Click the Deployment subtab. The Deploy Agents report, which displays a list of machines that do not have a MicroAgent, displays by default:
This list continues to update as Systems Manager returns results.
Note: If Systems Manager finds no endpoints discovered for deployment, it redirects you to the Discovered Endpoints report instead.
  13. Select the endpoints on which to install MicroAgents and click Deploy Agents. Or, select the check box at the top of the list to deploy to all endpoints.
Note: If your list of systems is more than one page, be sure to click Deploy Agents at the end of each page before navigating to the next page. Or, click the View All link to see all possible endpoints on one page.
This action installs a MicroAgent on each selected system. Systems Manager displays the Discovered Endpoints report where you can see statuses such as “Installed” and “Available”.
Systems Manager updates the status of each deployment when you click the browser Refresh button.
  14. Repeat the previous two steps to deploy on as many machines as you choose.
  15. After a few minutes, you can click the Assets tab to see the results of the deployment of agents:

Each asset can take up to a few minutes to appear in the list of assets.
  16. Optional: Click the system name of any scanned asset to display the System Inventory page, which contains details obtained through the hardware scan of the asset.
  17. Optional: From the top of the asset detail view, click the Managed Software Titles tab to display the Managed Software Titles report, which contains all of the software installed on a machine.
  18. Optional: Point to the Reports menu to review the list of available reports and choose any of the menu selections to view those reports or export the report data.
  19. Optional: Click the Patch tab to display the Systems with Missing Bulletins report, which includes all machines missing Microsoft patch compliance bulletins.
  20. Optional: Click a View Patches link to display the Security Scan Details report, which lists all patches currently missing from the selected machine.
